Keeping Busy while Looking for Work

It's important to keep busy while unemployed so that you make the best possible use of your time.  Here are some ideas on how you can do that.
1.       Join the local library and read a fiction and non-fiction book once a month
  • Develop your language skills
  • Develop your general knowledge
  • Keeps your mind active

2.       Join a local club or society (or create one!)
  • Develop your interpersonal skills
  • Opportunity to be in a leadership position
  • Adds content to your CV
  • Keeps your mind active
  • Acquire new skills and knowledge

3.       Volunteer at a local charity or community development project
  • Develop  your interpersonal skills
  • Opportunity to be in a leadership position
  • Adds content to your CV
  • Keeps your mind active
  • Acquire new skills and knowledge
  • Acquire some work experience
  • Acquire contactable references
  • Develop good citizenship skills

4.       Take up a hobby or an interest

5.       Start and finish small projects (I.e.: food garden, food drive for local charity or a fun run to raise money for charity etc. Homework tutoring. School holiday programme for local kids.)

6.       Look for part time or casual work (anything so long as it is legal, even if it does not pay well)
